Quick .. I need a Superhero name.

Quick .. I need a Superhero name.

You know like in the comics… I’m thinking Megawoman since Wonderwoman and Supergirl are already taken …

We arrived at the hospital at 7am for the procedure. The port will be accessed for chemo over the next 5 months. The port placement, is a minor procedure. It will be performed using local anesthesia and conscious sedation. The port is placed beneath the skin in the upper chest, just below the collar bone and is connected to a vein using a catheter.

From checkin to recovery, I should be out of here by noon. And that’s great. Because I will be starving!

They take us back. Get me changed up into a medical robe. IV inserted. Blood drawn. And then the doctor reviews the procedure with us. Easy peezy. They get ready to roll me into the operating room. Theo and I part ways. I try to tell him to go home and come back. He’s not having it. Probably going to find some more hot chocolate. 🙄

So we get to the room where I’ll have the procedure and the assistants and nurses are prepping for the procedure. We talk football. The doctor is a Cowboys fan. I instantly thought of the keke meme. “Sorry to this man” 🤣. We talk about the going rate for a missing tooth from the tooth fairy I’m taking suggestions for my final pre-chemo meal. Then the nurse tells me that they are adding antibiotics to my IV. Within seconds, I’m nauseated. So much so, that I have to sit up quickly before vomiting. They gave me a bag and some Zofran for the nausea. Instantly, I felt better but it also made me drowsy. A little more prep, and then they began to sedate me. Well, Intent wasn’t full sedation but I didn’t feel any pain. About 15 minutes later, they were done. But not before a selfie 📸

Ok, now that the initial checks are good, they moved me to recovery for 1 hr and 16 min of additional waiting. Don’t judge me! I’m hungry and I know exactly when I should be discharged!! The nurse hooks me up to the machines to check my vitals. She leaves and returns with snacks! Look at God! The Lord is my shepherd. He knows what I want 🙌🏽 (in my Bernie Mac voice)

Smash time!

I left the hospital around noon with a little souvenir and some instructions on how to take care of it. More reading in my near future. And just like that, I am a little further along in my journey and ready for my first treatment tomorrow..

Now I can eat!! A sister is starving!

Say hello to my little friend! The port and associated catheter is clearly shown on the right. Ignore the misc tubes. They were behind my back and picked up by the X-ray.
