Freedom

Freedom

All over the United States, black Americans are celebrating Juneteenth this weekend.

If you are unfamiliar, let me give you the Cliffs notes version: Contrary to popular opinion, 1776 isn’t the year that all Americans celebrate independence. In fact, all black Americans weren’t free until June 19, 1865. On this date, union soliders, led by Major General Gordon Granger, sailed into Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved, 250,000, were now free. This was a full two and a half years AFTER President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

With this said, you can understand why I, like so many other black Americans, celebrate this holiday. It’s freedom.

Turns out, I got a double dose of freedom on Juneteenth. This afternoon, LT called me with my pathology results. Remember, I told you that during the mastectomy, she removed sentinel nodes and tissue samples to ensure that the cancer was completed eradicated. Welp, it’s official. I have had a complete and total response to chemotherapy. All tissue samples and sentinel nodes (gatekeepers for your lymphatic system) tested negative.

NO CANCER!!!!!

So, not only am I celebrating my ancestor’s freedom, I am also celebrating my freedom from cancer.

Won’t He do it ?! 🙌🏽🙌🏽

Now, more than ever, Juneteenth has a special place in my heart!

❤️T

And I’m feeling good

And I’m feeling good

Now you see them .. now you don’t.

Now you see them .. now you don’t.
