Celebration time .. Come on. Let’s celebrate!
They’re here. They’re here!
I am like a kid in a candy store. There is something about family that does this to me. They’ve driven 23 hours to get to me. They’ve been swabbed and everything. And I KNOW how big of a deal that is. After recently being swabbed, I know that it literally feels like you are drowning. And after driving from Maryland to Texas five years ago, I know what kind of stamina is required to take that long trip. And I truly appreciate them for it.
Family .. that is what they are there for. Some of you have reached out to me and have shared that you wished your family was as close. And to that I say, you still can be! If the close ties don't already exist, it can start with YOU. Plan an inaugural event, ask your family to participate. Change is inevitable. You don’t have to accept your situation because that’s how it’s always been. Be the change you want to see!
Well enough of my preaching .. here are some photos of my pre-surgery celebration with the family. We decided to have a mini pool party on Sunday.
On Monday, I had a few things to do before surgery. After doing Sydney’s hair, I had an appointment to be fitted for a post surgical bra. LT wrote me a prescription for a bra .. yeah, that just sounds weird! After I got over how funny it sounded, I was more than happy to have my medical insurance cover the cost of one considering how much these things cost!
The boutique was cute enough, but I really just wanted it to be over so that I could back home to spend time with family. I’m sure I will appreciate the bra much more later. But today, I’m not really into the experience. However, we all know that I am Sally Sunshine and I must find the positive in every situation. So, here it is ….
Did you see the selection of colors for black boobs?! I was totally impressed! THIS .. my friends, is not the normal. I can assure you. It was good to know that I would at least have boobs that matched my skin tone!
Finally, the fitting was over and I was back home with the ones I love. Aside from responding to various well wishes from my village, I spent the evening laughing and reminiscing before it was time to call it a night. They had work in the morning and I.. well I had surgery! For what it’s worth, this was the perfect way to spend the evening before a bilateral mastectomy. I wouldn’t have changed a single thing.
Catch y’all on the other side.
